slate preview
Five games are on tap in the NHL on Sunday as the Sharks and Flyers meet in Philly after playing Saturday. The exhausted Islanders team will play his second game of the back-to-back in Florida. The Blue Jackets also took ice on Saturday and headed to Broadway to meet the resting Rangers. And finally, Dax is in Detroit and Kraken is in Chicago. Here are some recommended options for creating an effective lineup.
goalie
Igor Shesterkin, NYR vs CLM ($8,800): Shesterkin is off to a 3-0-1 start but looks nothing like the same goalkeeper who won the Vezina Trophy last season, going 36-13-4 with a 2.07 GAA and a .935 save percentage. I did. He wasn’t sharp early on with his 2.75/.901 line. Seek out Shesterkin and turn around his relationship with Blue his jackets.
Alex Sturrock, CHI vs. SEA ($7,100): Starlock had a sensational return to the NHL, stopping 36 of 37 shots in the 1-0 loss in Vegas, releasing the injured Petr Murazek after two periods on Friday and making all 10 shots. He held off and overturned the Detroit 4 to take the win. -3. The Blackhawks’ new coach, Luke Richardson, has been showing great defense for the team and should help Sturrock, who has played just one game in the league over the past two seasons.
value play
Elmer Soderblom, DET vs ANA ($3,000): Soderblom scored the winner in his NHL debut. And while he hasn’t scored a point in his last three games, he did his second unit duty on the power play, where he’s averaging 2:13. Soderblom makes a great play if you’re looking for something worthwhile.
Kyle Palmieri, NYI at FLA ($3,700): Palmieri skates on the first line with both even strength and man advantage. In his first five games he has only recorded one assist, but throughout his career he has scored 20 or more goals five times. Palmieri joined with a reasonable salary and plans to break out.
Joel FarabyPHI vs SJ ($4,000): Faraby got off to a non-existent start in the first four games but had a goal and two assists on Saturday. Having missed most of training camp after having neck surgery in the offseason, it’s no surprise it took him a few games to get moving. Farabee is very valuable and first line he buys time with action and top his power play. Last season he scored 17 goals and he scored 34 points in his 21 years and offers many advantages especially in terms of salary.
Jared McCannSEA at CHI ($5,000): McCann is off to a solid start with two goals and four points in six games. He led the Kraken with 50 points last year and will get a lot of help up front this season as Seattle adds Andre Bracowski and Matty he gets Veneers and Jaden Schwartz all season long.
forward line stack
Panthers vs. Islanders
Alexander Barkov (C – $9,100), Sam Reinhart (W – $6,500), Carter Verhege (W – $5,600)
With four assists for Barkov and one for Reinhardt, the first unit didn’t get off to a particularly good start, with only Verhege scoring two goals. The trio hit five goals and two helpers the last time the teams met in March. The Isles went scoreless in the opening game, but Barkov scored a hat-trick in the final game of last season.
Rangers vs Blue Jackets
Chris Crider (W – $7,900), Mika Gibanejad (C – $9,100), capo brackets (W – $4,100)
Crider scored four goals in three games against the Blue Jackets last season, with Gibanejad adding a goal and an assist. Kakko is leading the league this season, scoring two goals in five games. He hasn’t skated alongside Crider or Zibanejado on the top power play, but averages 1:10 in the second unit. Kakko’s salary makes this stack worth acquiring.
Counsel
Adam Fox, NYR vs CLM ($7,300): The Foxes picked up where they left off offensively with 1 goal and 5 assists in 5 games, including 4 of the last two games.
Eric Carlson, SJ at PHI ($5,200): Carlson hasn’t had a great time with the Sharks, but that might not be the case this year as San Jose dealt Brent Burns to Carolina during the offseason, leaving Carlson as the undisputed lead powerplay quarterback. Hm. San Jose haven’t scored many goals this season with just 12 goals in seven games, but Carlson leads the club with two goals and five points.
