Jets vs. Golden Knights - NHL Game Recap - October 20, 2022

LAS VEGAS — — Jack Eichel scored two points and Addin Hill made 26 saves as the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Winnipeg Jets 5-2 on Thursday night.

Aichel recorded his third multi-goal game in 39 contests since joining Vegas last season. It is the 32nd time in his career that he has scored two or more goals.

Vegas continued its impressive start under first-year coach Bruce Cassidy as the Knights improved to 4-1-0 and outscored their opponents 17-10 on aggregate.

William Carlson scored a goal and an assist for the Golden Knights. Chandler Stevenson and Jonathan Marcheso added goals for Vegas, Alex his Pietrangelo scored his 2 assists and Hill improved to his 2–0.

“From the beginning our energy was 100%,” said Hill, who found a four-goal lead in the first period. “I feel like we looked really good. We played a strong game.”

Combined with Calgary’s loss to Buffalo, the Knights finished first in the Pacific division.

Neil Pionk scored a goal and an assist for Winnipeg. Pierre-Luc Dubois added the goal and David Tich made his 27th save.

The Jets were playing the second in a row of road games after defeating Stanley Cup champion Colorado, 4-3, in overtime on Wednesday.

“I know they played last night and traveled here. It’s never been easy,” Echel said. “We were rested and ready to rock.

Eichel opened the scoring after linemate Riley Smith ran down the left side with the puck and delivered a perfect pass into the slot. Eichel took his two strides and delivered the puck to the top right corner.

Less than two minutes later, Carlsson made it 2–0 when he received Michael Amadio’s pass from behind the goal and scored his second goal of the season.

Stevenson made it 3-0 midway through the period when his centering pass came off Jets defender Brenden Dillon’s skate and past Ricci.

Achel scored the second of the period when each team took a penalty, swiped a clear pass for Richtsch in the slot, twirled in the circle, shot the puck home, and gave Vegas a four-goal lead. I scored a goal.

“I liked our energy,” said Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy. “We approached the game the right way. I thought they were well rested and ready.”

Dubois ruined a shutout bid early in the second period when he shot a rebound off Hill’s chest through the pads.

Pionque’s third goal of the season in the third period and Marcheseau’s empty net provided the final margin.

Winnipeg defenseman Nate Schmidt, who played three seasons in Vegas when he joined the NHL, said: “Honestly, back-to-back is tough no matter where you come from. We didn’t light the fire in the first period, you lost him 4-0.”

Vegas defenseman Shea Theodore played in his 400th career game and added his second assist of the season with a helper on Stevenson’s goal. Theodore’s 167 all-time assists tie him for 31st among defensemen since he entered the league in 2015. … 12 regulars he has won the team in his meetings of the season, his 11th and at least he has scored 4 goals.
