Lightning vs Flyers odds, picks and predictions

No two games make an NHL season. But so far, so good for the supposedly unfortunate Philadelphia Flyers.

Predicted to be one of the worst four teams heading into the 2022-23 NHL season, the Flyers went unscathed through the opening week with two home upsets against the New Jersey Devils and Vancouver Canucks.

Philadelphia will hit the highway for the first time on Tuesday night against the three-time Stanley Cup finalists Tampa Bay Lightning (2 wins).

Can the Flyers pull off three consecutive upsets? Here’s how to bet on Flyers vs Lightning: The showdown in Tampa is set for 7:05 PM ET on ESPN.

  • Lightning -1.5 goals (at BetMGM)

Few teams in recent years have been able to solve a puzzle quite like the Tampa Bay Lightning (regular season overall record: 246-100-26), who have won more than 66% of the past five seasons. At the top of that list is the fryer.

Since the 2017-18 campaign, Philadelphia has only one win in 11 matches against the Lightning. The team’s last win in Tampa? The 5-3 upset on December 29, 2017.

I’m not saying the Flyers couldn’t beat the Lightning. In fact, four of his 10 wins in Tampa Bay’s recent win against Philadelphia were in overtime or shootouts. Another was his 1–0 home loss in January 2020.

That’s good news. The bad points are: Last year, when the Flyers downshifted into full rebuilding mode and finished his second-to-last in the Eastern Conference, they weren’t all that competitive against Tampa Bay. In just 12 days he had two meetings, with the Lightning going 4-0 at home and 7-1 at the Wells Fargo Center.

As mentioned above, Tampa Bay didn’t get off to a good start, dropping two of the first three contests. But all three games were on the way. That includes his 6–2 loss in his second straight game in Pittsburgh on Saturday.

More relevant is the fact that the Lightning had 27 home wins last year, the sixth most in the league. And nine of their last 11 home wins in the regular season have come from multiple goals.

Conversely, Philadelphia’s 11 road victories in 2021-22 are the fewest in the NHL, tied with Montreal, New Jersey and expansion Seattle. And when the Flyers lost as visitors, they tended to lose ugly (he lost 21 of his 25 regulation losses by multiple goals).

Not only was Philadelphia the least profitable team in the NHL last season in terms of betting, but it also ranked second only to Seattle in losses as a road team.
