NFL Week 5 Results: Giants earn 'A+' in London upset.Chiefs get a 'B+' after surviving a Raider

The Giants have been to London three times and won all three of them, and their most recent victory was arguably the most unlikely.

On paper, it looked like the Giants didn’t have much of a chance of beating the Packers on Sunday, but the Giants clearly didn’t read the paper. I was able to win 27-22 in the game I thought. Not only did they start Week 5 with a quarterback (Daniel Jones), but they were missing some key receivers.

And honestly, it was actually worse than that. Here’s what the Giants were dealing with this week.

Giants coach Brian Daball decided to throw the kitchen sink at the Packers due to their limited offensive options. He devised a game plan with offensive coordinator Mike Kafka to make the Giants’ offense one step ahead of the Packers’ defense.

The Giants saved their most unique play in the red zone. The first touchdown of the game in New York came on his 2-yard run from Daniel Bellinger. This was much more exciting than his regular two-yard run.

The score went into the second quarter and cut the Packers’ lead to 17-10.

In the second half, the Giants did even better on offense, scoring on each of their first three possessions. A big reason why I was able to do that was because of Sacwon Barkley’s play. After being temporarily out of the game in the third quarter due to his shoulder injury, Barkley returned to the field to come up with two of his biggest plays of the game in New York.

The first came with a short crosser from Jones that Barkley was able to convert into a 41-yard gain.

After four subsequent plays, Barkley lined up in a wildcat formation on play and eventually entered the end zone for the game-winning touchdown.

Barkley carried the ball 13 times a day for 70 yards and smashed the Packers’ defense with 5.38 yards per rush.

Barkley was great, but it could be argued that the Giants’ offensive MVP was Jones. He also rushed for 37 yards. This probably took the Packers by surprise. His one big play from Jones came in the 3rd quarter at 3 and 3 when he ran 4 yards to keep the drive on the QB draw.

The Giants are 4-1 this season for the first time since 2009, and there’s no reason to think they can’t keep winning. Not only did they prove they could play with the Big Boys on Sunday, but they proved they are one of the Big Boys by knocking out the Packers.

The Giants may also want to start volunteering to play in London more often.
