NHL Training Camp Talk: Neil released from PTO by Blue Jackets

James Neal was released from his professional tryout contract (PTO) on Monday.

The 35-year-old forward has 559 points (296 goals, 263 assists) in 869 games for the Dallas Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins, Nashville Predators, Vegas Golden Knights, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers and St. Louis Blues. He signed his one-year deal with the Blues after joining his camp training with the PTO last season, and in 19 games he scored four goals (two goals and two assists).

boone jenner Coach Brad Larsen said he could make his preseason debut against the Blues on Thursday. The Columbus captain has practiced but has been out of the game as a precaution due to back pain.

The 19-year-old forward has failed to score a single point in three pre-season games.

He was injured on September 28 in the second period of a 3–1 win against the Arizona Coyotes when he was hit on center ice by Coyote forward Jan Jennick. He remained on the ice for some time before being rescued into the locker room.

Jenik was not penalized for this play.

Zeglas, 21, tallied 61 points (23 goals, 38 assists) in 75 games last season, ranking second among NHL rookies.

The Ducks end the preseason with two more games against the Kings on Tuesday and Saturday. They will begin the regular season on October 12 at the Honda Center against the Seattle Kraken. — Dan Allitt

Boris Kachuk Missed 4-6 weeks with a sprained left ankle.

The forward was injured in Saturday’s 3-0 loss to the Detroit Red Wings. Kachok scored one goal in 21 appearances for the Blackhawks last season.

Forward jujal khaila It’s the days of my right ankle injury. He scored three goals in his 27 appearances for Chicago last season.

The Blackhawks open their regular season on October 12 at the Colorado Avalanche.
