Oettinger, Stars start season undefeated, beat Jets

Dallas — Jake Ettinger The Dallas Stars made 23 saves and continued their undefeated streak on Monday with a 4-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets in their season opener.

“I didn’t like the first ten minutes at the start,” said Stars coach Peter DeBoer. “I thought we worked on the game. I made some key saves at key moments.”

Ettinger started the season conceding three goals on 87 shots in three games, including a 4-1 win on Thursday and a 5-1 victory over the Nashville Predators on Saturday.

Jets associate coach Scott Arniel said, “He’s a good young goalie who won’t crash the net for second or third chances if he doesn’t get enough traffic.

The Jets were coached by Arniel ahead of their season opener 4-1 win over the New York Rangers after Rick Bowness tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday. Bowness, who was hired as coach on July 3, resigned as Stars coach on May 20.
