For the second time since 2020, the NHL has released reverse retro jerseys for each team in the league. The team will wear these jerseys several times throughout the season. Some teams have released games that wear them. How does your team’s new look compare to others?
For the 2020 release, On Tap Sports Net ranked all 31 jerseys at the time (Seattle hadn’t formed yet), with the Minnesota Wild taking the top spot. In fact, it was the first time the Wilds were top of the league.
The timing of this release was a little strange. For one thing, it was Thursday afternoon. Second, the season has already started. Anyway, who on earth expects the NHL to do something smart?
32. Chicago Blackhawks
Oh, how the mighty man has fallen! The Blackhawks are dumpster fires on ice, and these are somehow worse than the team itself.
31. Detroit Red Wings
I think the NHL teachers should have yelled at the Blackhawks and Red Wings and let them know this was not a group test. “Hey, let me copy your homework.” “Okay, but don’t overtly.”
30. Nashville Predators
Pretty bad. This is the true identity of the mustard tiger. Someone should pay for these jerseys “How to Catch a Predator” and set them on fire.
29. Toronto Maple Leafs
This sounds familiar. Oh yeah, it’s basically Toronto’s main home jersey. Did the Maple Leafs forget the deadline and put this together with five seconds to spare?
28. Calgary Flames
The Calgary primary jersey is truly sensational. In both reverse retro he threads, Flames wore a black sweater. For a team with a stunning color scheme, it’s a big mistake.
27. Edmonton Oilers
The Battle of Alberta ended in a 0-0 draw in the Reverse Retro War. Just like Calgary, Edmonton’s leading threads are phenomenal. However, these are not.
26. Tampa Bay Lightning
you know what? Give Tampa Bay Points for creativity. This jersey is truly unique. Now, remove those points and create a trash sweater.
25. Dallas Stars
Star wants black to be one of the primary colors. Do you want to do it or not? But you have to do more than this if you’re going to pull the trigger.
24. St. Louis Blues
The Blues have put together a solid reverse retro for 2020. It was a red and blue jersey with diagonal stripes. It was really unconventional, but aesthetically pleasing. 90% yellow jersey? Swing and miss, boss.
23. Columbus Blue Jacket
Columbus has chosen not to use the “CBJ” logo used in the 2020 Retros, nor the Canon logo in any way, shape or form. That’s too bad. This version falls into the “meh” group.
22. Ottawa Senators
Wearing the primary jersey and changing the font type of the numbers should honestly disqualify you. Luckily for Ottawa, their primary his jersey is very good.
21. Carolina Hurricanes
This is the white jersey from Hurricane Road, but it’s red. It doesn’t really meet the challenge description. In 2020, Carolina used the Whaler logo. Just do it and everyone loves it.
20. Philadelphia Flyers
It’s rather simple and elegant, a sentiment the city of Philadelphia will never hear again. There’s not too bad to say about this, but it also doesn’t take your socks off. It’s a cool and nostalgic touch.
19. Montreal Canadiens
On the one hand, the design of the jersey is great. However, this is the same jersey he designed as every Montreal sweater so far, so it’s no surprise. That shade of blue usually works in jerseys, but not in Montreal.
18. Arizona Coyote
These are very similar to the purple reverse retro jersey Arizona released in 2020. The purple jersey was loved throughout the league. The problem here, however, is that the purple version was much better.
17. Seattle Kraken
scroll to continue
It’s always a big deal when a brand new team releases a reverse retro jersey. Welcome to Seattle’s alternate jersey. These are pretty decent, but the “ice blue” in the logo is soaked into the same blue in the top background of the logo.
16. Colorado Avalanche
These are pretty solid. An alternate ‘C’ logo works well on the front of the jersey. Color pops. I have no complaints other than the fact that Av’s 2020 retro was far better than these.
15. Washington Capitals
I’ll paste here everything I said earlier about the Arizona jersey. The Capitals copied his red 2020 Retro jersey and painted it black. Red was much better.
14. New Jersey Devils
The Devils pay tribute to the Colorado Rockies with these sweet jerseys. No, it’s not a baseball team. The Devils moved from Colorado in 1982. The one that combines the Rocky color scheme with the Devils design is the winner.
13. Winnipeg Jets
If anyone released a white jersey, it was the Winnipeg Jets. The whiteout scene at the playoffs in Winnipeg is really special. Oh, and so are these jerseys.
12. Buffalo Sabers
The Sabers followed the homework syllabus. Their fans love the old angry bison logo. The only problem with it is that it came in a red and black color scheme. Buffalo wins here by mixing royal and yellow with its logo.
11. Anaheim Ducks
This duck replacement logo doesn’t get enough credit. The hockey mask logo is now used on another orange jersey for the team. In orange it feels a little gimmicky, but in white it really pops out of the jersey.
10. Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguin remains basic here, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Throwback logos and jersey designs, the same true Pittsburgh black and yellow. They should keep these and throw their yellow jerseys into the Allegheny River.
9. Boston Bruins
Fans can either love these or hate them. Frankly, they are pretty sweet. The logo stands out and the brown color works surprisingly well. These are a tribute to his 1995 Boston third his jersey worn in the first third jersey game in NHL history.
8. Vegas Golden Knights
As with the Kraken, it’s hard to put together a reverse retro jersey for a team with limited history. But Vegas has done a pretty good job here. The stripes on his elbows give it a vintage look. The diagonal “VEGAS” also gives a solid impression. Gold stripes pop out from the black background.
7. New York Islanders
The fisherman logo is back. Enough said.
6. San Jose Sharks
Man, oh these are sweet. These jerseys pay tribute to the California Golden Shields who also played in the Bay Area. It’s essentially the same jersey with “Shark” replaced with “Seal”.
5. New York Rangers
This almost feels like cheating. The Statue of Liberty logo is her one of the best in sports. Throw it over your jersey and you’ll be the winner!
4. Minnesota Wild
As previously mentioned, Minnesota Wild took the top spot in the 2020 Reverse Retro rankings. The 2022 version is pretty similar, but with the jersey changed from white to green. It will cost you some spots.
3. Florida Panthers
Man, who saw this come out of the Florida Panthers? Historically, Florida jerseys stink. This new Reverse Retro will quickly become your go-to sweater. Bravo.
2. Los Angeles Kings
One word: Royalty. These almost reign supreme, but they don’t take the top spot. Certainly, purple and yellow with the crown logo will always be a winner.
1. Vancouver Canucks
have a phone “Johnny Canuck” is featured on the front of the NHL jersey. Its logo is spectacular and earned it this ranking for Vancouver on its own.The navy blue and green piping gives it a wintery feel. These are really sweet and deserve the top spot in the 2022 rankings.
So you have it. No doubt there will be many disagreements here. Even if your team doesn’t do well here, do well. The Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings really didn’t show up. An embarrassing performance from two original Six franchises.
However, the likes of Vancouver, LA and Florida picked up the slack. Check out our #3 ranking in a few years when the NHL does this again.
