We’re about a week into the new NHL season, and most teams have already played two or three games. It’s still very early, but we’re getting quality insight into how the team is doing compared to what we expected in preseason.
As for the action tonight, there are eight games on the docket, with a quartet of East Coast games kicking off at 7pm ET. Below I’ve listed my top three bets on the NHL tonight.

Anaheim Ducks vs. New Jersey Devils
The Ducks make a short trip from New York after last night’s 6-4 loss to the Rangers. As for the Devils, he hasn’t played since Saturday’s 5-2 loss to Detroit, so he’s been well rested. A pack drop is set for this inter-conference clash from the Prudential Center at 7:00 PM ET.
Anaheim started the year at 1-2-0 with their only win against the Kraken on opening night. They are currently traveling east for the remaining five games in New Jersey, Boston and Detroit. The Ducks, in a second straight game, could go with backup netminer Anthony Straatz after John Gibson played the first two periods last night and gave him a 29/34 save opportunity. Stolarz took over in his third, stopping New York’s shot on 8/9.
New Jersey got off to a rough start, 0-2, with back-to-back 5-2 losses to the Red Wings and Flyers. Tonight he will be either Vitek Vanecek or Mackenzie Blackwood on the net. It’s worth noting that each has his GAA above his 4.00 and SV% below .850.
Here we shoot Dax as quite the underdog. I honestly don’t think the Devils should pour this kind of juice on any of his NHL teams. I think the line is on the higher side because of the scenario where the ducks are fighting back to back, but it’s early in the season and Anaheim has a lot of young skaters. It shouldn’t be affected. I see this game as a toss-up between two similar teams trying to develop a young star, and this plus money payout for the winless devil side. The difference in this game is special teams play, with Anaheim ranked 11th (25.00%) in power plays compared to New Jersey’s 20th-ranked unit (16.67%). There is a possibility.

Buffalo Sabers vs Edmonton Oilers
Both the Sabers and Oilers entered tonight’s game 1-1-0, both coming out of losing efforts in their last game. For Buffalo, it was a 4-3 home loss to the Panthers, but the Oilers dropped the incident 4-3 to the flames in the Battle of Alberta. Tonight’s game is set for 9 PM ET from Rogers Place in Edmonton.
A 4-3 loss for the Sabers wouldn’t be out of the ordinary this season. This is an attacking young club that doesn’t have too much on the defensive side to limit their opponents. This includes the elderly Craig Anderson, who is likely to start at the net tonight. Despite my slander, the 41-year-old Netminder is 1-0-0 for the year with 1.00 GAA (1st place) and .972 SV% (1st place). Whether he’s about to kick off a Renaissance year or his size against the low-ranking Senators one his game sample, either way you can try a spin. Either way, he was solid in the opening round, but he may have some issues against a much tougher attack tonight in Edmonton.
The Oilers have the 10th-best offense in points scored (4.0 gpg) and are also starting the year second in power plays, going 4-8 (50.00%). The dynamic duo of Connor McDavid (4G, 1A) and Leon Draisaitl (1G, 4A) started the season with an attacking load as usual and from the gate he combined 7 power plays his points. rice field. Rookie Jack Campbell should get his start at the net tonight. In his 1-1 he starts the year with a 5.98 GAA and .851 SV%.
The Sabers have their hands full defensively tonight as they face hockey’s top two players, McDavid and Dry Saitle. The two, along with Zach Hyman and Kyler Yamamoto, should be able to expose this young and inexperienced Buffalo defense. It has all the makings of a barnburner, but I like how the Oilers find a way to extend their lead to his 2+ goals tonight. Their power play unit is very dominant and he should be able to score at least one goal against his PK unit (80.00%) in this 16th place owned by the Sabers. Ride with the Oilers on the pack line for even money payouts.
Bets: Edmonton Oilers -1.5 (+100 via Caesars)
Los Angeles Kings vs. Nashville Predators
The Kings are on a two-game winning streak going into tonight’s game 2-2-0. They picked up his 5-4 overtime win in Detroit last night and now head south into his second night of back-to-back runs against Nashville. The Preds are also 2-2-0, but have dropped back-to-back games to the Stars at 4-1 on Thursday and 5-1 on Saturday. This Western Conference showdown is scheduled for 9:30 PM ET from the Bridgestone Arena.
Los Angeles squandered three different one-goal leads last night, but were able to clinch the win thanks to Philippe Danneau’s unassisted overtime goal. Jonathan Quick started last night, and he made 29 saves on 33 head-to-head shots. That amount of action should set him aside in a back-to-back situation and we’ll see Cal Petersen at the net tonight. The 27-year-old Netminder is 1-0-0 with a 6.00 GAA and .829 SV%.
Nashville started the year with two wins over the sharks in Prague. However, they have dropped both contests since returning to the state, largely due to a lack of offensive production. But they have just 1 win and 16 losses (6.25%) and are ranked 28th. However, Nashville is usually a team that relies on strong defense and good goaltending to achieve success.
Juuse Saros is expected to nod between pipes tonight. He’s the main reason the Preds love to win at home. The 27-year-old goaltender starts the season with a 1-2-0 record, but he boasts a 2.54 GAA and .889 SV%. In his 39 home games last year, Salos saw him go 25-13 with a GAA of 2.26 for him and a .927 SV%. It’s only a matter of time before Nashville step under them and solidify their ice defense.Personally, I like the move that Ryan brings in McDonagh (0G, 2A) this year. He plays a key role defensively in his zone working with Roman Joshi (0G, 1A). Expect the Preds to overwhelm the Kings tonight and take home the barn win.
